The Asscociation of Autonomous Astronauts (AAA) heeft zichzelf ten doel gesteld om outer space menselijker te maken. Volgens deze vereniging is het nu namelijk in handen van fantasieloze wetenschappers. Lees er hier meer over.
“This is the thing: when the Americans pick the people they send into space, they just pick the most automotive people to do this incredible adventure. They went all the way to the moon and decided to play golf?” Ayers sighs and runs a hand through his hair. “It’s like, can you not think of something more creative to do when you're out in space?”
Thus, in an effort to make space more human, the AAA devoted a considerable amount of effort to figuring out ways that space exploration could liberate human energies. The group planned for everything from space orgies to dance parties, which necessarily required experimenting with the best music for space exploration.
Bij Jules Verne’s journey to the moon speelt al het aspect van kunstenaars in de ruimte. In zijn verhaal laat hij een kunstenaar het ruimte schip versieren. Het is niets meer dan een holle kogel, maar wel erg comfortabel. Maar het is vreemd dat kunst bijna geen rol speelt in outer space. Het zou toch goed zijn om niet alleen wetenschappers naar de ruimtestations te sturen maar ook kunstenaars. Een artistist in residency in outer space. Misschien levert dat wel hele nieuwe inzichten op.
